چکیده

Cyclophosphamide (CP), one of the most widely prescribed antineoplastic drugs could cause a lethal cardiotoxicity. The present study is aimed at evaluating the role of dl-lipoic acid (LA) in oxidative cardiac damage induced by CP. Adult male Wistar rats were divided into four treatment groups. Two groups received single intraperitoneal injection of CP (200 mg/kg BW) to induce cardiotoxicity, one of these groups received LA treatment (25 mg/kg BW for 10 days). A vehicle treated control group and a LA drug control were also included. Cardiotoxicity, evident from increased activities of serum creatine phosphokinase, lactate dehydrogenase, aspartate transaminase and alanine transaminase in CP administered rats, was reversed by LA treatment. CP administered rats showed abnormal levels of enzymic (superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, glutathione r m T ©

O6: Protective Effect of Alpha-Lipoic Acid on Neuronal Degeneration Due to Sciatic Nerve Transection in Rat

Peripheral nerve injury induces inflammation and oxidative stress, which are the most significant causes of the neuronal death. Alpha Lipoic acid (ɑ-LA) as a potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent may counteract the oxidative stress and inflammatory response. This study was designed to investigate the protective effect of ɑ-LA on neuronal cell death in L4 dorsal root ganglion (L4-DRG) i...

Cisplatin-induced cardiotoxicity: Mechanisms and cardioprotective strategies.

Increased oxidative stress and apoptosis have been implicated in the cardiotoxicity that limits the clinical use of cisplatin as an anti-tumoral drug. Our study was conducted to evaluate the protective potential of acetyl-l-carnitine, DL-α-lipoic acid and silymarin against cisplatin-induced myocardial injury. Eighty male albino rats were divided into eight groups. The first four groups were tre...

Does gallic acid improve cardiac function by attenuation of oxidative stress and inflammation in an elastase-induced lung injury?

Objective(s): Cardiovascular disease has an important role in mortality caused by lung injury. Emphysema is associated with impaired pulmonary gas exchange efficiency and airflow limitation associated with small airway inflammation. The aim was to evaluate the interactions between lung injury, inflammation, and cardiovascular disease. Since gallic acid has antioxidant ...

p-Coumaric acid protects cardiac function against lipopolysaccharide-induced acute lung injury by attenuation of oxidative stress

Objective(s): Acute lung injury (ALI) has a high mortality rate and is characterized by damage to pulmonary system giving rise to symptoms such as histological alteration, lung tissue edema and production of proinflammatory cytokine. p-Coumaric acid (p-CA), as a phenolic compound, that is found in many types of fruits and vegetables has been reported to exhibit a thera...

The Effect of Alpha-Lipoic Acid on Learning and Memory Deficit in a Rat Model of Temporal Lobe Epilepsy

Introduction: Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder in which patients experience spontaneous recurrent seizures and deficiency in learning and memory. Although the most commonly recommended therapy is drug treatment, some patients do not achieve adequate control of their seizures on existing drugs. New medications with novel mechanisms of action are needed to help those patients whose sei...
